It's good that
@anotherkiwi did not get that memo about the Agilo not having space for luggage. He took his on a long unsupported camping tour.
But if u want to build an AsfaltTretboot, go for it. If u got skills to weld, or know someone who does and is willing to help, go for a steel frame. If not, wood might be an option, as it can be glued. Perhaps a check on a canoebuilding forum might help u find better quality thinner plywood.
With foam u need a frame, like a coat needs a coat hanger to stay in shape. When building in Wood, u can go for a unibody wich carries itself. The Saki Holma designs would probably work with 3mm ply also. A bit heavier, but perhaps not even that much. If u can sourch Poplar plywood or Okuome, (Okume, Gaboon) The Camping Velomobile is a Unibody, the others a Shell on frame design.
I can tell from experience that it is sometimes better to spend on a good working commercialy avaiable thingy, than to make 3 cheaper versions yourself and discover they sadly do not work as one hoped for. And in the end having spend even more. Penny wise, Pound foolish. When embarking on such a project it is difficult to know which task is within reach from your capabilities, and wich is not. U might have learned a thing or two over the years that would help u along on such a project. But i find it difficult to estimate from what u have written, if u are up for the tasks at hand. I am inclined to support people in reaching for their goals. But i am realist enough to know that some things are out of range for some.
When i started out there where things i knew i could do, so i started with those, with gained experience i could build more difficult parts. And some things i procrastinated on and had to adjust after the first rides. Luckily it was solvable. Even the biggest Journey starts with 1 simple step.
Have a seat, estimate costs, see what parts can be found or bought, be realistic about your abilities. Wich problems can u see comming that u do not have a sollution for? Have others found sollutions? Do u need unknow skills and have others mastered that skill challenge without education? If others can, why wouldn't you? Things like that realy helped me to get from just dreaming about... to actualy building. It also prevented me going down the road of building my own FG Velomobile, a road on wich i would have spend much more than what i paid for the secondhand commercial model i also own now. (Probably i would have a lesser result than a Milan GT)
Sorry for diverting in to this more philosopical side, but i'd rather point this out now, than after u spend a fortune and then come to the conclusion the project will never get done.
