You might be right. I think the thing that slows me the most is cadence. I use a 46 tooth front chainring, so my cadence is fairly high at those speeds. There are other things that I can still improve on. for example faster tyres, better allignment of front wheels, and better road surface. How did you ascertain a possible speed of 70 km/h? Do you know someone who has an e-assist and a df? Thanks heaps for your comment, I will look into if something is wrong with my DF-xl.
I just had another go on the same stretch of road and managed to get up to about 56 km/h, another thing that slows me down is the flag on my velomobile. I would definitely like to know if there is stuff I can change on my DF to make it get up to 70km/h on a flat.
Hi Saukki, yes in NZ I am allowed to have 300W electric assist, and it is still classed as a bicycle. If I had a more powerful motor, or another one, I would have to register it, and it would then also need to meet the requirements for the class of vehicle it then comes under.

Ok, thanks! In Finland normal e-assisted bicycle can have maximum of 250 W motor and the assist should stop when the speed goes above 25 km/h. No throttle allowed. But you can have more powerful motor up to 1 kW, but then you have to buy incurance. But if you take pedals off, you get basicly a electric vehicle with max 1 kW motor and max 25 km/h speed with throttle, and for this you don't have to buy incurance Finnish laws and regulations are sometimes quite complicated

That does sound complicated. In NZ as long as the vehicle is made to be primarily pushed by the power of the rider (pedalling) and the motor does not exceed 300W, then it is classed as a bicycle. There is no restriction on speed limit at which it will still assist. It is possible that this law will change in the future, NZ is improving its cycling infrastructure and adjusting to E-bikes which are becoming more and more popular here.
