Today after pulling out at the end of my street on my way to work, my chain on the milan jammed, I backpeddaled and it freed off but a few meters later it jammed again. I stopped to see what was happening and my Ginkgo idler had broken . Looking closer at the idler, it looks like one of the 3 bolts holding it togeather had fell out. The bolts did not appear to be thread-locked and were only threaded into the thin aluminum plate meaning you cannout tighten them much before you strip the thread out. I have since managed to fashion a new cog from a 22t cassette cog by drilling 3 holes in it and cutting out the middle of it and it works enough to ride the milan but I want to get a new idler, hopefully before my big ride to the seminar.
For all those with Ginkgo idlers, please make sure the bolts are threadlocked to prevent it falling apart on the road, or do as I did and use longer bolts with nylock nuts.
Any idea if Ginkgo are likley to be able to replace this for me or will I have to pay for a new one?
The aluminum spacers between the cog and the side plates were bent and damaged but I managed to bash them back into roughly a round shape so I can ride again but I think they need replacing as well as the cog.
