Azub 5 gestohlen

Hallo zusammen,

von Jirka Hebeda aus Tschechien bekam ich diese Nachricht:
A friend of mine had his Azub 5 stolen in Prague yesterday. It is a heavily modified bike that he customized quite a lot including some modifications to chain-line, seat attachments and front suspension. But most visibly he had a lot of electronics on it. He is much crazier about lights than I am. Some pictures can be seen here: http://generator.rajce.idnes.cz/Jak_to_nakonec_vypada_aneb_na_detailu_zalezi/
Nobody can understand why would someone steal a bike like this. And the consensus is that most likely it will end up stripped, most of it thrown away and the frame sold as aluminium scrap. But there is still the possibility that they might actually know recumbents are expensive and try to sell it in another country. Since Germany is the most likely one and I do not know anyone else from there I am writing this to you :).

Reliable information on how it happened is difficult to find but it seems that the time line was something like this: they reported the bike stolen around 8 a.m. in one part of Prague. They waited till 10 for the police to come and then they were giving testimonies at the police station around 1 p.m. In the meantime some guy came to a different police station in another part of Prague around 9 a.m. to report that his room-mate or possibly tenant placed an "electric recumbent Azub 5 frame number xxxxx" in his apartment without his consent and he does not like it and would like the police to do something about it. Reportedly both those men are drug addicts well known to the police so it seems like this one got scared that such a unique loot would be recognized and decided to get rid of it by blaming the other one.
It took some time to put those things together. Basically one Prague cyclist placed some pictures of the bike on some well known cycle path. Few hours later some guy called her number (that was on the pictures) to tell her, that his former colleague who now works as a policeman was telling him about this bike found in this apartment and that the description was like the bike on this picture on the cycle path. After that it just took some phone calls to different police stations to make sure it is really happening, than another Prague cyclist went to one of those stations (where they transported the bike in the meantime) to identify it and now she is sending the pictures of it to its owner who lives near Prostejov. Reportedly she could not find any damage on the bike, which would be amazing.
Viele Grüße,
Martin

Na, das ist doch mal ein gutes Ende und wenn der anfängliche Ärger mal vergessen ist, ist's eine tolle Anekdote! (y):)
