Nächstes Jahr werde ich in Deutschland wohnen (Kempen, NRW). Ich bin seit 5 Jahre Liegeradfahrer und habe 67,000km geradelt. Für mich jetzt wurde ein Velomobil toll sein, wenn das Wetter schlecht ist.

Ich habe Quest und Mango gesehen (man kann es hier in meinem Blog auf Englisch lesen http://www.auntiehelen.co.uk/breakfast-with-velomobiles/), aber diese sind für mich nicht Möglich. Ich bin leicht behinderte, mein Arm (der linke) ist swach - ich kann es nicht nutzen, mir zum aufsteigen helfen.

Ich suche ein Velomobil, dass ich mit nur ein Arm/Hand aufsteigen kann. Ich habe kein Velomobil geradelt, aber von Bilder sieht das Versatile möglich. Ich kann nichts bis April 2014 kaufen (wenn ich in Deutschland bin) aber will ein bisschen vorher herausfinden.

Gibt es andere gute Möglichkeiten?

Ich bin nicht schnell Radfahrer aber ich mache normalerwise 40km pro Tag. Wo ich wohne in Essex ist meistens Flach. Ich bin 1.76m hoch und ganz schwer (90kg).

4000€ oder weniger für GebrauchtVM wäre gut.

kann es sein, das wir uns bei LEL/ Letzte Kontrolle unterhaltenhaben? Ich war der Fahrer mit dem Weissen Velomobiel mit den roten Streifen.


Also mir fallen neben dem Versatil, das Allewedder A6 und die Leibe Brise Ein. Die sind recht offen.
Bei der Leiba Classic und dem Cabbike(gibts wohl nur noch gebraucht) kann man den Deckel sehr weit öffnen.
Etwas kleinere Öffnungen haben Milan GT / und Milan SL, da kann ich mir sowas aber auch noch vorstellen.
Ach ja : Ganz einfach zum Aussteigen dürfte die Leitra ein Thunderstorm sein.

Ich denke aber bei den meisten Velomobilen wirst du die Beine sehr stark anwinkeln müssen, und dich am Quertunnel abstützen um dich erstmal am Sitz entlang hochschieben zu können.
Das Schwierige wird sein dich soweit hochzuschieben, das du mit den Füssen dorthinkommst wo normalerweise Der Po ist , also hinter die Radkästen
Von Vorteil ist, wenn du dir den Boden im VM soweit verstärkst das er so stabil ist das du drauftreten kannst. Das kann man auch gut nachträglich machen.

Wenn dich die Milan interessieren: Probesitzen kann ich vermitteln. Melde dich dann nochmal bei mir , wenn du in Kempen bist.

Deine €-Schmerzgrenze habe ich jetzt erstmal nicht beachtet..

Hi Helen,
I guess most of us understand English quite well so you can use your native language as well. Still, your German is not too bad.
I would recommend you to look for a Leitra. Very easy to get in and out. Just open the front fairing, step over the main frame, lower yourself into the seat, close the fairing. Finished. You don´t need to support yourself with your arms on the edges of the entry opening as with many velomobiles of now.
If really necessary, the Leitra has got a sturdy steel frame around the seat to support yourself with your right arm.

The only problem: Most Leitra owners are very reluctant to part with their own one.

Leitra.

Ein- und Aussteigen geht ganz einfach, der Wetterschutz ist gut, und sie dürfte auch weniger wiegen als ein Versatile.

Troubadix, thanks for your reply too. I have a list of possibles at the moment which I'm making notes on. The list is:

Alleweder A6
Go-One (too hot?)
Leiba classic (ugly)
Leiba X-stream
Leitra (weird-looking)
Milan
Sunrider (too heavy?)
Versatile (heavyish)
WAW (my thighs too fat?)

Having not ridden anything yet it's hard to know quite how I'll get on with a VM but the idea of riding throughout the winter without getting rained on and very cold is extremely tempting.

Hi Helen,

as I wrote before (and is confirmed by others now) a Leitra would be the best for you to get in and out. It's basically the same as getting on and off your ICE trike. The only difference is you have to lower or push up the hood (can this be done single handed, anyone?). I'm going to try if I can get in and out my Mango using only one arm.

Helen kommt auch zum Trike Treffen in Schwalmtal. Es wäre also schön wenn sich dazu auch Leitra- und/oder Thunderstorm-Fahrer anmelden würden. ;)

Hai Hellen,

der Sunrider wiegt ca. 46 kg und ist meistens nur mit E-Unterstützung sinnvoll. Mit ugly ist das so eine Sache, am besten alles mal fahren, schön ist nicht unbedingt angenehm zu fahren.

Hi Helen,

I own a Leiba X-Stream and I like it immensely. To me, it´s a perfect everyday velomobile. Still I doubt if it is the right choice for you, because it has got a fairly high entry sill and you need to support yourself lightly on the rim of it when entering.
Another alternative for you could be a combination of your ICE trike and a french Wildcat fairing (based on the Leitra, www.velovergne.fr ). This could also fit your financial constraints but involves some handiwork like adding a tailbox and some winter protection for hands and arms. You can find a thread about a well executed one here.

This is exactly the sort of info that is really useful, so thanks. I have crossed the X-Stream off my list for now.

I'm not very keen on adding something like a fairing to my ICE trike as it would miss the opportunity for a whole new machine (n+1 as we say in the UK). Also I am very keen on having an enclosed chainline to avoid some of the problems I've had in winter with my trike.

I think the Sunriders are too heavy and I don't need e-assist. Yes, 'ugly' is a fairly unimportant thing to worry about but if I could have something that suited my needs and that also looked cool then that would be a bonus!

If you consider a velomobil mostly because of the weather protection you might want to consider a Hase Klimax or Kettwiesel with the cover (it's the same trike, only with or without electric motor). With the matching poncho you can stay dry even in heavy rain.
(even though your german might be limitied you post is better then some of native germans ...)

Schade - gerade wollte ich das Arcus Velomobilgehäuse aus Finnland von Arto als Option ins Gespräch bringen.
Preislich sicherlich hochinteressant und an ICE-Trikes entwickelt, hat es meines Wissens keinen gekapselten Antrieb. Ausserdem bliebe es bei n und nicht n+1 :( ...

Ich wünsche dir viel Erfolg bei deiner Suche. Hier im Forum gibt es genug Spezialisten, die dich beraten können.

We had a boat from Essex too, a Prout.

I am nothing like the usual Essex Girl.

For a start, they would be tottering around on high heels rather than looking for a Velomobile to look ridiculous in!

About the weird looks of the Leitra:
Once inside you feel differently about it. It is very well ventilated (the most ingenious siystem I have seen with a velomobile so far) and in light colours it feels quite airy.
My main problem about the Leitra is: I like a high bottom bracket as in my X-Stream or in my old, but lovely Flevo Alleweder and with the Leitra the bottom bracket is beneath seat height. The irksome thing about the proportions lies in the short wheelbase which seems about a third of the length of the whole thing so it looks like it could topple over even when standing still.- It does not, of course! :D
This is a trade-in for an excellently small turning radius, a Leitra almost turns on the proverbial dime.
About looking ridiculous: Sometimes I get a hard time not to laugh out loud when seeing a man who is anything but sportsmanlike in a so-called "sportscar".

Jedrik commented to me that Leitra owners really like them and this is reflected here with the comments - thanks folks!

The Leitra has now moved up my list (now second after Versatile/Orca) in my current order of interest.

Mind you, Oliver's just told me he was able to get out of his Mango one-armed...

wir kennen uns von einer Liegerad-Begegnung an der Mosel (Liegerad-Erlebnisstation).

Alleweder A 6 bietet ja sehr viel Platz. Mango und Strada wären auch noch eine gute Alternative.

In dem ersten Beitrag schreibt Helen, dass sie Quest und Mango gesehen hat und diese für sie nicht möglich sind.
Dazu gehört auch das Strada.
Meiner Meinung geht Milan, WAW und K ebenfalls nicht.
Probiert doch mal, mit einer Hand ein- oder auszusteigen! und gebt dann erst Ratschläge.

Ich habe es aus dem s ohne Hände Probiert.
Im allerletzten Moment sind schon zwei nötig, mit Griff vorne oder schmalen Pin vorne wurde es auch mit einer Hand gehen

Helen,
I think it will be rather impossible to get out of a WAW as well of a Milan with only one hand or arm working.
When testing a WAW for the first time I really had problems to get out although I am tall and have no
handicap with my arms. With the Milan the situation is quiet similar.
Therefore I'm afraid that both velomobiles won't be suitable for you.
