IMG_0214.jpegI am trying to post photos of my very first attempt at velo building.from about 12years ago.
I can’t find a way to look at the post before posting? If these three pictures appear in the post then I might have it figured?
This project is no more as without wheel wells it was not very comfortable! But I learned a lot about spacing and construction!
If this post works I’ll post more of my projects and glad to answer any questions.
Regards Terry
Ok, they are in the wrong order but you will be able to tell!
Obviously I am a big fan of all the wood projects I see here. Schew bear, ditte 5 etcetera.(spelling)
Using google trans late is sometimes hard to get subtilies in the proper context!

Thankyou, I now realize the edit button!
My second project was much more like a common velomobile design. It was cedar strips on a series of molds that worked up until the difficult parts like the nose! Here I resorted to a foam mold and layers of glass cloth.IMG_0474_Original.jpeg.the drive line was handled with a subframe. This was foam clad with thin plywood and one layer of 6oz fiberglass cloth.similar to the shell. It was nice to be able to see the drive line but from the photo you can see the return line was not optimal! It required that a slot be cut in the floor of the shell!

This was joined to a bottom and became the first version IMG_0176.jpegthe first tiller steering did not have a cardan joint so it really interfered with the knees so it was quickly changed to side stick steering. I’ll talk about further changes in a subsequent post.

I’m trying to keep this in chronological order but it may not work out that way!
My second project was a wood waw. With help and permission from Katanga I tried to replicate he classic waw shape.
It’s been awhile but I think these Flickr photos show the construction. I had to make many assumptions along the way but it turned out OK although it’s a bit tight for me to fit in! I have redone the boom design is several times and the most recent is not in these photos. This will probably end up with another owner who like to tinker and modify!

20230731_094737_Original.jpegAgreed, This may help me organize my scattered photos, maybe not!
A some point I decided to try another top half for the cedar strip velo. I wanted a wee bit more knee room and to make a usable hood. The result was kind of boxy but it was the best I could do with strips . It lived in the storage rafters for some time like this before I had a go at finishing. As a wood finish it was not acceptable so a decision to paint was my option.20230227_164525_Original.jpeg20220301_170423_Original.jpegwrong order again!

There were several attempts with the hood side windows .nothing I tried worked so they remain open. Not the best aerodynamics but comfortable while riding. At one point I made a carbon copy of the hood. It was slightly lighter but I like the wood one better!20240715_123909_Original.jpeg20231220_141725_Original.jpegonline I discovered take away hinges I made some from carbon and they work pretty well. The hood will swing up but also remove easily. The little sun roof was and idea to get more air and daylight into the cabin.

The other modification was to try a peddle assist. I installed a TSDZ middrive and am reasonably happy with it.
It only provides assist up to 26 kmph. On flat terrain it’s reasonable to maintain 30 kmph so the 48 volt battery lasts for nearly 100km. Much appreciated on the up hill!
I made a custom bottom bracket for the motor to account for the offset!
The electrical system is a simple 12 volt using a talent cell battery.
The rear wheel is 20” with a sram dual drive. With the motor you can generally just use the three levels but there is a 9speed cassette for fine tuning.
