What is mountain for you, I live in hilly country and I have 11-42 cassette and Schlumpf speed drive with chain ring 40t, equivalent to 66t.
But you can also have mountain drive, the problem is that the Q-factor of Schlumpf is 20mm wider that original crankset. I reduced that by machining the cranks where pedals are fixed, 6mm gain, also by grinding the square of the pedals where it is fixed on the square axle, 6mm gain and now by moving the shoes cleats maximum toward external side.
My shoes are 42.
