Dear fellow enthusiasts,
I joined this forum a while ago and immediately became active as someone kicking shins, making bold claims, acting smart and trying to throw mud. I watched the following discussions for a short time and then went on to think about what I did (not reading the forum for a while).
But now I am back, and I have something to say. Unfortunately I am not very good at using words;
I want
A vehicle that is
Human powered (obviously)
Fun to ride
Together with my (ex-)wife
Comfortable for her
Comfortable for me
These challenges have all been solved before spezi 2025, if you were there maybe you remember what I am talking about:
build process SamenFiets2025

But, as is often the case, the ‘I want more’ and ‘I have a good idea’ departments of my brain did not become silent while riding my creation. In fact they got even more excited and now I want;
A tilting trike rear end (so I can control the bike through starting and stopping without needing my wifes legs)
An improved front seat; this one doubles as a luggage compartment but it has been over-optimized for antisweat functionality and now it is uncomfortable.
A luggage rack over the rear wheel with some nice click-on panniers
A new rear saddle because it has been used for ‘experiments’
I would also like to add;
A modular lightweight fairing system (ultra-lightweight clickable body panels made from indestructible crashfoam)
Obviously this system includes a little windscreen and roof which can be installed for rain or stored in the back for sunshine.
And maybe in the future;
E-support to go 45km/h on the road instead of the bicycle lane. Legally it will need a small license plate and is no longer allowed on the bicycle lane in the city.
Integrated crash protection in the relevant body panels (which are then no longer lightweight) to protect me from possible crash with cars.
Most of all I want it to be open source so that anyone who wants one can customize and build it for themselves (or have it built by friends).
You can follow the progress in CAD here (for now I am transferring the original design from Autodesk Fusion to Onshape):
For now progress happens in short bursts of free time=energy between my full-time engineering job.
Zoals gebrauchlich excuseert u mij the use of verschillende languages through einander. Ich sprech ein sehr klein beetje Deutsch. Let's communicate as much as possible through CAD-drawings and pictures. As the saying goes; 'a single 3D model tells an engineering story that could fill a book'
Love,
David
PS: please try to keep discussions on-topic, purposefull and to the point. We have an entire forum to break out technical details in separate sub-forums so let's keep this thread as the center hub.
