Sorry for the late answer. Been a bit busy before Christmas - and your mail ended in the Spam folder for some strange reason.
Velomobiles have an aerodynamic drag advantage over ordinary road bikes. So it would not be fair to classify a velomobile with ordinary bike riders when on asphalt. It is a bit difficult to judge, if velomobiles have a disadvantage on the gravel roads, that would counter the aerodynamic advantage, so they are in reality more equal on the long distance. I am not exactly sure about that. So I must admit, that if you ride a velomobile, it will be kind of an experiment in next years race - to see if velomobiles are equal or still have the aerodynamic drag advantage. But until this has been determined, the velomobiles are riding in a class of it's own. I am not sure either, if other riders will take kindly to classifying velomobiles with the rest of the pack.
Another question is how it rides the gravel roads. Only you can tell me, following the race, if we need some special circumnavigational rules or a slightly different route for velomobiles. That is if you opt to race in one next year. Since I do not have one myself, and have never ridden one, I can not judge if this is necessary.
I hope this satisfy your question.
BTW: Can I write in Danish to you?
All the best
Lone

Hi Lone,
thank you, I was affraid because your post on facebook, " Even though velomobile's will be classified by themselves, since they are often much faster.", that Velomobiles will be classified kind of outside or will the Velomobil rider be 1st if he needs least time?
Med venlig hilsen
Bjørn

Hi Bjørn,
Just saw this email. You can ride any bike as long as it does not have
an electric engine or some kind of motor. So you can ride a velomobil.
Though it might not be practical, since you might have to get over one
or two fences in southern Jutland - depending on padlocks being removed
or not. I am not sure how much a velomobil weighs, if it will be easy to
get over.
All the best

Message: Hi Lone
At facebook i saw that a velomobil will not compete at RDBR?
Rule #17 shows nothing of that, will you change the rules?
Please inform me in time in you change rules because it 'll make no
sence to participate if a velomobil will not be seen as competitor.
+ Tracker-Pflicht
- Langer Anfahrtsweg
- Hohe Kosten
- Teilweise sehr schlechte kaum VM taugliche Wege

Hi Lone,
Your awnser is a bit unspecific.
I'll participate to win, plus I'll like to set a time that will last some years.
If this is not possible because you change you rules and a velomobil without a engine being first around Denmark ist not the winner of RDBR, I'll not participate with my velomobil.
A big part of my wish to win in a velomobil is my hope that this will be recognized by a bunch of people and lead them to change from their cars to a velomobil to go to work.
In case it is not possible to win RDBR with a Velomobil, is it possible to use a recumbent, a recumbent with hard case behind the seat or a triatlon race bike with faired wheels and win RDBR?
Tanks for your time and godt nytt år
Björn
I was thinking over and over about RDBR and came to these awnsers.
1. Other riders have already kindly accepted to race against velomobiles because they accepted Rule 17.
2. I think I am faster with my velomobil than I am on my racingbike, but that is because 90% of my riding is done in my velomobil and my racingbike is nearly as old as I am.
3. The small roads choosen in RDBR will not favor the velomobil over a light optimized long distance bike, like Danny was using 2018, because the overview are not as good and the very long stretches like in Kansas are not there here.
4. I feel not welcome if RDBR is separated in different categorys.
My suggestion is we all race against each other and below that overall view you make categories.
Nice will be riders get categorized by value of their bike and stuff used to partizipate.
I have huge respect that racer participate on a average bike.
All the Best
Björn
Hello Lone,
I will not start at RDBR 2019 and ask for the registration refund.
Reason is vague application of rule 17
"§17.Any non-electric powered bike is allowed. Even those that aren’t allowed in traditional grand tours (HPV etc..) - as long as it is not powered by some kind of engine – electric or fueled."
wich is not followed by separating velomobiles from all other bikes.
I wish a nice time, good weather and fair competition
Björn
Der wird 1. Recumbent wenn es rechtzeitig geliefert wird.Bin mal gespannt wie MarcelG bei Nordkap-Gibralter gewertet werden wird.
ist schon schön
