Hi Leute,
gerade auf der holländischen Mailinglist gefunden:

> At 7:15 pm October 9th
> Sam Whitingham pedaling the Varna Mephisto a bike designed and built by
> George Georgiev set an unnofficial 200M Flying start record for single rider
> human powered vehicles at high altitude at the Worlds Fastest Bicyle
> Competition. His time was 6.18 seconds which equates to 72.41 MPH! The
> previous World Record Holder's time was 6.5 secondes which equates to
> 68.72mph.
>
>
> Andrea Blaseckie (Blas-key) also racing a Georgiev built Varna bike set at
> womens record in the same event as well, traveling 54.04 mph. The previous
> record was 51.84 mph at 8.630 seconds
>
> All runs were in legal wind conditions and on a legal surveyed course.
>
> Sam Whittingham 6.18 sec 116.50km/hr 72.41 mph
> Matt Weaver 6.55 sec 109.92 km/hr 68.32mph
> Sean Costin 7.47 sec 96.39km/hr 59.90mph
> Andrea Blaseckie 8.28 sec 86.96kn/hr 54.04mph
>
> Matt Weaver reported that he had his bike over 80mph,but shut down early due
> to some wind buffeting and concern over some bridge structures near the
> timing area.
>
> Weather conditions were ideal. approx. 65 deg. F and very light winds.
>
> Results are unnofficial. They must be approved by the records committee
> before becoming official.
>
> Weather in the area is going to be very bad (Rain)for the next three days.
> The Morning session on Tuesday has been Cancelled. Hopefully we can get more
> legal runs in. We ran a Morning Session on Monday, but the times weren't too
> spectacular.( Sam was fastest at about 62 MPH. Paul Buttemer was at about 60.
> It was a shakedown run for the Varna and Coslinger teams. Matt Weaver did not
> arrive in time to compete, I ran at about 55 mph.
>
> This is proving to be a very historic event. If we have legal conditions
> again, it seems like Matt Weaver has an excellent chance of making a quantum
> leap in speed. After he was extricated from his bike, he was absolutely
> beaming. I thought he was joking when he said he was going over 80 mph. His
> belief that you could build an extensively laminar body on a land vehicle
> appears to be true.
> Matt almost didnt get his run off. He was launched with a rolling launch
> support, but he came off cockeyed and came as close as you could get to
> crashing. It was interesting to watch through my video monitor as I was
> waiting my turn to launch.
>
> All of us have been putting too much effort too soon in the run. The run up
> is 5.5 miles. Sam made a large correction in his run up technique that made a
> 10mph difference in speed. The course is the Holy Grail of 200M courses. It
> is incredibly smooth and consistent. The slope is very comparable to the
> Alamosa county course, but much longer and much smoother and at half the
> altitude. The course was discover by Matt Weaver exactly 4 years ago.
>
> We have been working under some substantial threat of losing our road closure
> permit and technical problems. A trucking company near the start area has

> unnoticed)ranch gates.
>
> Many of these problems have been worked out, but only through extensive
> teamwork and effort, and sheer luck. I am looking forward to this day of bad
> weather to improve the Coslinger and relax a little.
>
> The entire event is being filmed for a documentary. Sam's record run was
> filmed in it's entirety by the documentary filmmaker from the Varna chase
> vehicle. We are encountering a funny new problem. Matt Weaver's father had to
> drive his chase vehicle at over 100 mph to catch up with his son. I plan to
> talk to the Sheriff's department to see if they can issue Sam a speeding
> ticket.
>
> I'll try to get some photos posted today. Matt's bike has never been in

Staaarrk!

Super!

(<a href="http://www.ihpva.org/hpva/hpvademph.html">Dempsey-MacCready Preis</a>)

Gruss Stefan
