I did a trial, with the tracker mounted in what I consider optimum position on my commute.
33km, about one hour riding time.
Message 34 is when still at home in the garage. The Atlas position is 8km off.
35 and 36 normal and accurate
37 missing. There is no tunnels, so I seem to have lost coverage.
38 and 39 normal and accurate
Then further 2 messages en route and the last message missing. I park in an underground parking so I don’t expect the last message.
So I end up with a position (message 39) 19kms (25 minutes ride) away from where it is parked.
My route goes through the low lands but close to the hills of the Emmental region. Hills and mountains are generally out of Sigfox coverage.
What I had in mind was a put-it-and-forget-it theft recovery tool. I knew it would be much rougher than a GSM based system. But this is too rough. So for me it is the wrong tool. Will try to sell it second hand and get a GSM based tracker. I can manage a power supply. The annoyance is the SIM card. The providers keep shutting inactive SIM cards off. That sucks.
So thanks for your support and sorry for not having better news.
Good luck.
