VelomobileWorld-Konversation

Hoi Jan,
Rounder lamination? you mean change the mould? or make it thicker the lamination. Or what kind of "Kantenschutz" you had in mind

I feel you should seperate 2 processes:

1) continual improvement of the manufacturing process. This reflects in process capability and process stability, From my perspective I have the feeling that this has room for improvement. For my feeling, I read far too much about missing end caps on breaklines, missing nuts. Pictures of Details of the Milan Suspension Support obviously not installieren in parallel etc. As I Dont need a Velomobil as a Commuter anymore, this definately put me off to buy one just for fun,

2) continual improvement of the products. There is always Food for thought.
Know that quality is rising, we are not perfect, but we do our best to increase quality and that's why I open the discussion to hear information. From Romania we dont hear everything. That's why I like Spezi and other gatherings because I hear things and can action then.

Thicker lamination for only the 2cm from the edge on the inside, and before the painting round the scharf edges

Jens keeps retrofitting Kantenschutz but it is still not what it should be.
In case of an accident or tipover you have very intesive contact (can be a multiple of your body weight) with these edges. They must be more than just a few mm wide. (I know that this is not achieveable with a top mold that needs to be unmolded towards the top.) But well worth a thought for the VM Designers. There is no easy solution but it needs to be addressed.

As a first step that does not need a design change you could at least grind the sharp edges round. Radius 1/3 of thickness for example.

As far as I am aware, Daniel Fenn considers improvements on the cockpit rim for his new project Alpha 9 to solve the sharp edge issue.

For existing models a retrofitable solution seems very doable to me. Anybody could develop and sell those, though a manufacturing and distribution through Velomobileworld and their dealership network would of course make sense.

I guess it could be as easy as a piece of foam, cut to shape (think of the ellbow rests from velomobiel.nl) and kept in place with some velcro.
I think @Delta Hotel has made something similar already.

I‘d buy it if not prohibitively expensive.

What about a simple Styrodur solution? I think that the "roud edge" solution of Werner and the "closed profile" solution of Einrad will be quite tricky in production.

Warum so kompliziert gedacht?

Lean-Camp in Köln

Subject Sharp edges. I will have a discussion with with ICB, Daniel, Velo.nl. But I think that the rubber profil is a good solution for the velo's which are on the road. When we also choose for a EP-Foam solution I think it should be only at the shoulders area.

Hello Kai,

Thank you for your feedback.

I know the methode of Lean I have read the books and try to implement it. As you already sad the composit is improved a lot in compared with older SL/GT's. We are going forward with quality improvement and quality insurance. Unfortunly I am not magician and this is my first company I run.

1. Special...

2. BM we modified in mean time the BM hood because the positive mould we received did not fit on the body we produced. We modifeid the mould. I will think about a tool to make to verify if they are acording standard

3. If Stefan notice something like this he can fix this easy, or I dont understand the point. I check what we can make for process here to improve.

Thanks again Kai

Jan
